Chapter 93: My Enemy, I Shall Face Alone
Jiang Yunzhou rose to her feet, cutting off the rest of Shen Ruizhang’s unfinished words and bluntly showing him the door.
“Uncle, if you have nothing else to do, then stop disturbing me here.”
Shen Ruizhang paused, then nodded stiffly. “Are you... very busy?”
Jiang Yunzhou looked at him coldly, and from that face alone, Shen Ruizhang already had his answer.
It was not a matter of whether she was busy or not. She simply did not want to see him.
That made him feel even more defeated.
He drew a deep breath. “All right. You go ahead with your work. I won’t disturb you.”
He had originally come to ask Jiang Yunzhou not to make things too hard for Zhou Qingfei, but now he no longer dared to continue.
He could only think of a way himself.
After watching Shen Ruizhang leave the company, Jiang Yunzhou’s expression turned even lonelier. The evidence beneath her hand proving that Zhou Qingfei had hired someone to kill had not been shown to him.
At the time, Shen Ruizhang’s attention had been entirely fixed on Jiang Yunzhou and the evidence from years ago about the drugging incident, so he had no spare thought to notice anything else.
Naturally, he missed it.
A while later, Jiang Yunzhou picked up her things and left the company, taking the evidence and a lawyer straight to the court to file suit.
She moved quickly, so quickly that Zhou Qingfei and the others had no time to react.
Standing at Jiang Yunzhou’s side, the ace lawyer said softly, “Miss Jiang, as you instructed, all the evidence has already been submitted. If nothing unexpected happens, Miss Zhou will certainly be sentenced.”
Jiang Yunzhou folded her arms. “Do your best to get her the heaviest sentence possible. Hiring someone to murder another person is so vile in nature that even attempted murder should carry life imprisonment at the very least.”
“I understand. I will fight for the greatest benefit on your behalf.”
Reassured after entrusting the matter to the lawyer, Jiang Yunzhou prepared to head back.
But halfway there, she received a phone call. Her eyes flickered, and she immediately changed direction.
Meanwhile, at the police station, Zhou Qingfei was in dreadful spirits. Facing the officers questioning her, she shouted furiously, “It has nothing to do with me! I’ve said it hundreds of times already, it has nothing to do with me! I think all of you have been bribed by that bitch!”
“I’m the one who should sue her for imprisoning me! Why don’t you arrest her instead?”
The people in the station exchanged glances. Just then, someone entered from outside and said directly, “Miss Zhou, you are suspected of hiring someone to commit murder. The evidence is conclusive. Please come with us.”
A moment ago, Zhou Qingfei had still been snapping back with righteous confidence, but the instant she heard those words, her face turned deathly pale with fright.
“No, impossible! I... how could I possibly hire someone to commit murder? What evidence do you have? Did that bitch Jiang Yunzhou fabricate it on purpose?”
The officer who had come to take her away handed the warrant to the interrogating officer. After glancing at it, the officer turned and left.
“Where are you going? Get back here! I’ve been framed! Don’t even think about taking me away!”
Seeing that they truly meant to take her, Zhou Qingfei panicked at once.
She hurriedly shouted, “I... I want to see A-Rui! Call Shen Ruizhang right now! He would never let me go to prison! Never!”
She repeated the same words over and over, as though they were the one thing keeping her heart steady.
When Shen Ruizhang came to the station to see Zhou Qingfei, he happened to walk straight into the scene of two officers escorting her away.
He rushed over at once, only to be stopped the next second by other officers.
“A-Rui! A-Rui! Save me, hurry and save me! I don’t want to go to prison! I can’t go to prison! A-Rui! Think of a way to save me!”
One of the people at the station kindly told Shen Ruizhang what had happened, and he stared at Zhou Qingfei with widened eyes.
“You... you really hired someone to kill? And you were trying to kill Zhouzhou!?”
Faced with Shen Ruizhang’s questioning, Zhou Qingfei was already crying miserably from terror.
“But nothing happened to her, so why should I be arrested? A-Rui, save me! I’m carrying your child! Are you really going to let our child be born in prison?”
Shen Ruizhang opened his mouth, but for a moment he did not know what to say. He could only stand there and watch as Zhou Qingfei, sobbing uncontrollably, was taken away under guard.
After remaining in place alone for a long time, he finally crouched down on the ground in dejection.
When Jiang Yunzhou arrived at her destination, she saw Shen Tingxiao holding a bouquet of roses, dressed up so extravagantly that he looked like a peacock in full courtship, as though he wished he could strike eight hundred poses in a single second.
The corners of Jiang Yunzhou’s lips could not help lifting, but when she remembered their current identities, that faint smile quickly fell away.
“You asked me to dinner. Why are you carrying flowers?”
Shen Tingxiao stuffed the red roses in his hands into Jiang Yunzhou’s arms. “If I’m seeing you, of course I want to bring you flowers. Or next time, shall I give you something else?”
Jiang Yunzhou pressed her lips together and gave a light cough. “It’s inappropriate. You should restrain yourself a little.”
The smile on Shen Tingxiao’s face vanished at once. “Zhouzhou, you said you wouldn’t abandon me. Were you only lying to me?”
Jiang Yunzhou knew he had misunderstood and hurried to explain, “I’m married to your uncle now. At least outwardly, we can’t let people see that we’re at odds, much less let it reach Grandmother Shen’s ears.”
Shen Tingxiao fell silent for a moment. “So what you mean is, you want me to be your secret lover?”
Jiang Yunzhou was so startled by his words that the corner of her mouth twitched.
“You... I only meant that we shouldn’t meet too often in public.”
Shen Tingxiao was clearly displeased, his expression especially grim.
“Zhouzhou, you know very well how Shen Ruizhang treated you before. Don’t tell me you still can’t let go?”
Jiang Yunzhou no longer felt like saying much. “I just don’t want Grandmother Shen to suffer. Her condition has only just come under control.”
Shen Tingxiao gritted his teeth, drew a deep breath, and said, “How long? It can’t be like this forever, can it?”
Jiang Yunzhou paused, then said firmly, “It won’t be. Once Grandma’s condition is stable, I’ll explain everything to her clearly.”
Only then did Shen Tingxiao feel somewhat reassured.
Like a gentleman, he pulled out a chair for her and said gently, “Sit down. You’ve been tired all day, and you haven’t eaten yet, have you?”
“I had only just finished work when you dragged me over here.”
The two sat facing each other. Jiang Yunzhou noticed the dark circles beneath Shen Tingxiao’s eyes, and her brows lifted slightly.
“You look pretty worn out. Has that eldest young master finally started making his move?”
Before Shen Tingxiao could answer, Jiang Yunzhou’s phone rang. The moment she saw the message on the screen, her face darkened instantly.
“What is it?”
Seeing her expression, Shen Tingxiao asked with concern.
Anger spread across Jiang Yunzhou’s face. “Zhou Qingfei!”
At that, Shen Tingxiao immediately understood and narrowed his eyes.
“Let me help you.”
Jiang Yunzhou stared at the message on her phone, her expression terrifyingly grim.
“No need.”
Shen Tingxiao pressed his lips together. “Are you sure?”
“My enemy is mine to deal with.”
Shen Tingxiao knew Jiang Yunzhou’s temperament, so he merely gave a quiet assent. “I will always stand behind you. If it becomes too much to handle, you don’t have to force yourself.”
