Chapter 112: Never Cross Those You Cannot Afford to Offend
Jiang Yunzhu stared at the anonymous email that had just arrived, her entire body frozen in place.
She hadn’t expected such a dramatic turn of events to come so quickly.
The very evidence she had been searching for, unable to find for so long, was now delivered straight into her hands.
Noticing the strange look on Jiang Yunzhu’s face, Shen Ruizhang asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. It’s just that something with no progress has finally seen some progress,” Jiang Yunzhu replied, silently opening the email and reading through it with a blank expression.
The shock on her face was indescribable. Deep down, she understood that if Sang Bai could be treated so by Xu Sen, then surely others had fallen victim to him as well.
What she hadn’t anticipated was that so many well-known actors were among the victims— even a currently prominent actress was one of them.
Shen Ruizhang’s brows knitted together as he walked over to stand behind Jiang Yunzhu, catching a glimpse of the sordid scene playing out on her computer.
His eyes widened in surprise. “Where did you find this?”
Even he hadn’t been able to uncover so much, and any attempt to dig deeper would inevitably alert the wrong people, leading to untold trouble.
Jiang Yunzhu remained silent, but Shen Ruizhang’s concern only grew.
“I don’t know where you got this evidence, but you’d better not act rashly. This could bring you harm!”
Jiang Yunzhu’s face darkened at his words.
“Harm me? Do you know how many people he’s hurt? Do you think I’d be afraid?”
Shen Ruizhang pressed his lips together, his brows furrowing even more deeply. “I’m only worried you’ll get hurt. That man isn’t someone we can deal with. It’s enough for you to see these things, but you mustn’t let them leak. The moment they do, you’ll be completely exposed, and they won’t let you go.”
Jiang Yunzhu’s expression clouded further, a cold laugh escaping her lips. “If you have nothing else to say, you can leave now. Don’t disturb my work.”
Knowing she was deliberately trying to send him away, Shen Ruizhang’s face darkened for a moment, but he persisted, “Fine, I won’t bother you here. But remember what I said—I’d never hurt you.”
Jiang Yunzhu snorted coldly. “Enough, I don’t want to hear your pointless words.”
Shen Ruizhang opened his mouth as if to explain, but seeing Jiang Yunzhu’s face, he ultimately swallowed his words.
Once Shen Ruizhang had left, Jiang Yunzhu continued to pore over the evidence.
She read through the anonymous email over and over, her heart growing heavier with each pass.
She tried to reply, hoping to contact the sender and perhaps learn more, but upon clicking, she discovered the anonymous account had already been deleted.
Jiang Yunzhu pressed her lips together, her expression growing even graver. Who had sent her this, only to delete the account so quickly? Clearly, they didn’t want to be found.
She quietly saved all the evidence, making several backup copies on USB drives, just in case.
She longed to expose everything, but Shen Ruizhang’s warning echoed in her mind.
And when she thought of all the victims who still didn’t dare come forward, she restrained herself from acting impulsively.
She had just finished securing the files when her assistant burst in, flustered and breathless.
“Jiang! Jiang, something’s wrong!”
Jiang Yunzhu quickly closed her computer and turned to face her frantic assistant.
“What happened?”
The young woman blurted out, “Jiang, all the collaborations our company had lined up with other companies have been rejected!”
Jiang Yunzhu’s brows immediately drew tight. “What happened? Where did things go wrong?”
The assistant, equally bewildered, shook her head. “I don’t know. They were all going well before, contracts almost signed, but at the last minute, every one of them backed out!”
Jiang Yunzhu’s face darkened. “All the company’s partnerships have stopped?”
“Except for those that can’t be ended, almost all our collaborations are gone!” The assistant added cautiously, seeing Jiang Yunzhu’s grim expression, “Because of the rejections, the company’s finances are in a bit of a bind right now.”
Jiang Yunzhu’s face changed, her jaw clenching. “I understand. Is there anything else?”
The assistant looked even more helpless. “Yes. Our most popular artist was about to join a new production, but today we got notice that the role’s been given to someone else.”
“She went to confront the director, but he said our company had offended someone we shouldn’t have, and there was nothing he could do.”
Jiang Yunzhu instantly understood.
“It’s him again! No one else would target us like this but him!”
The assistant had no idea who was behind all this; so much had happened in a single day that she was still reeling.
Before she could say more, another knock sounded on the office door.
You Ranyue walked in, arms crossed.
Jiang Yunzhu narrowed her eyes, sizing her up. You Ranyue was one of the company’s rising stars, and Jiang Yunzhu usually agreed to her requests.
“What is it?”
You Ranyue got straight to the point. “Jiang, I don’t know who the company’s offended, but it’s us artists who are suffering! If this can’t be resolved soon, I’ll have no choice but to leave.”
Jiang Yunzhu pressed her lips together, her face darkening further. But she understood that You Ranyue was only looking out for her own career.
“I understand. I’ll resolve it as quickly as I can.”
You Ranyue’s face remained cold. “How quickly is ‘quickly’? You know we artists can’t afford to wait. If this isn’t fixed right away, I’ll have to leave. I have several endorsements, and if they break my contracts because of the company, what am I supposed to do?”
The role she’d been promised was suddenly gone—You Ranyue was in no mood to be accommodating. Still, she didn’t want to be too harsh, so she was willing to give the company a little time. But if nothing changed, she would have to go.
After sending everyone away, Jiang Yunzhu slumped wearily into her chair. She had just received the evidence from the anonymous sender, and the next moment, disaster struck the company. It was hard not to think of Pierre.
After all, he was the only one she’d recently made an enemy of.
The quiet of her office was broken by a sharp ring from her cell phone.
“Mom? What brings you to call me now?”
Jiang Yunzhu pushed her worries aside and answered the call with a smile.
Chen Li asked cautiously, “Yun, have you offended someone recently?”
Jiang Yunzhu’s tone chilled at once. “Mom, has something happened to you?”
Sensing her daughter’s concern, Chen Li quickly reassured her, “I’m fine, really. I’m just worried about you. Yun, there are some people you can’t afford to offend. Just do your best and keep yourself safe, all right? I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
