Chapter One Hundred and Eight: Discovery
The little assistant looked at Jiang Yunzhou’s furtive back and frowned in confusion.
“Sister Jiang, do you know someone else in the crew?”
Jiang Yunzhou followed cautiously behind the man, only to be stopped at the entrance.
“Please show your entry pass.”
Jiang Yunzhou pressed her lips together. Where was she supposed to get an entry pass?
“Didn’t you just see me come out? I left something inside and wanted to go back for it.”
The person guarding the entrance still wore a blank expression. “Sorry. Since you have already left, someone else has to bring you back in.”
Jiang Yunzhou had not expected the people outside to be so rigid. It had only been a few minutes at most.
She could only wait outside for the little assistant to lead her in again.
When the assistant returned and saw Jiang Yunzhou standing outside, she froze completely.
“Sister Jiang! Y-you...”
Before she could finish, Jiang Yunzhou cut her off.
“I was stopped. They said anyone coming in from outside has to be brought in by someone else!”
Her tone was slightly resentful. If she had not been stopped just now, she would have followed him.
By now, she did not even know whether she could still catch up.
The little assistant silently led Jiang Yunzhou back inside. Once they were in, and Jiang Yunzhou began looking around, she asked curiously, “Sister Jiang, are you looking for someone?”
Jiang Yunzhou paused, then coughed lightly. “That’s not something you need to know. Go do your own work. I’ll just take a walk around the set by myself.”
The assistant was a little uneasy. “Sister Jiang, are you really okay on your own? How about I stay with you?”
“No need. I’m fine by myself.”
With one more person beside her, the chance of being discovered would be much higher.
The assistant nodded vaguely, then headed toward the filming area.
Jiang Yunzhou stopped one of the crew members and asked, “Did you see a man come in just now? Do you know which direction he went?”
The crew member looked at her in confusion. “What kind of man?”
Jiang Yunzhou was silent for a moment, then described the appearance of the person she suspected. After hearing that, the crew member nodded.
“Oh, you mean that secretary. I think he went to see the director.”
Jiang Yunzhou’s eyes narrowed at once. “A secretary?”
“Yes, the CEO’s secretary. No idea what he came to the director for, but I think he’s been here several times already.”
Jiang Yunzhou’s expression changed sharply. “He’s come several times? Do you know which company he’s from?”
“It seems to be the Shen Group. I heard the director mention it once when I happened to pass by last time.”
Jiang Yunzhou’s face darkened, and the smile on her face could no longer be maintained.
“You’re not lying to me, are you? The CEO of the Shen Group? Is he that familiar with the director?”
The crew member shook his head, bewildered. “I don’t know anything else. That’s all I know. Wait, were you not here to see the director, but to find that secretary?”
The man looked genuinely astonished, as though he had just heard a shocking piece of gossip.
Jiang Yunzhou said flatly, “I only thought the secretary’s back looked a little familiar, so I wanted to see whether it was someone I knew.”
“Oh, I see. Then you’d better wait outside. The director should be talking business with the secretary. If you go in, that would be bad.”
Jiang Yunzhou was momentarily stunned. Looking at the middle-aged man beside her, who seemed to have all the airs of someone seasoned and worldly, she could not help twitching the corners of her mouth twice.
Still, she followed his advice.
Jiang Yunzhou found a place to sit, and the little assistant even brought her a hat and put it on her head.
After waiting for nearly an hour, she finally saw the secretary slowly walk out from the set.
Jiang Yunzhou lowered her head, letting her peripheral vision sweep across his face.
When she saw clearly who the secretary was, her feelings became impossible to describe.
That secretary was one of Shen Ruizhang’s men.
She could never have mistaken him.
Before she realized it, Jiang Yunzhou had clenched her palm so hard that it turned red. Even after the man had gone far away, she was still dazed.
It was not until the little assistant came back looking for her that she came to herself.
“Sister Jiang!”
The assistant looked at her with obvious concern.
“Sister Jiang, are you all right? You suddenly seem like a different person.”
Only then did Jiang Yunzhou slowly unclench her hand.
“I’m fine.”
She took a deep breath and forced down the anger in her heart, then suddenly looked at the assistant.
“You’ve been on this set for so long. Have you noticed whether someone from the Shen Group has been coming here to see the director?”
The little assistant shook her head in confusion. “I’m not sure. I don’t think I’ve seen any secretary come to see Director Xu. Sister Jiang, did you find something?”
Jiang Yunzhou narrowed her eyes, her voice sinking. “I did find something. I just hope it turns out to be false.”
If it was true...
The assistant did not understand what Jiang Yunzhou meant and looked at her in confusion.
“Sister Jiang, when are you planning to leave? The car from earlier already went.”
Jiang Yunzhou rubbed her temples, then tugged her hat lower over her head.
“All right. You don’t need to see me out. I’ll manage on my own. Take good care of Sang Bai, and if anything happens, tell me immediately.”
The assistant nodded seriously. “Don’t worry, Sister Jiang. If anything happens to Sister Sang Bai, I’ll notify you right away.”
Jiang Yunzhou left the set quickly, only to discover that the secretary had not left entirely yet.
She immediately walked over and stopped him.
“Secretary Zhou! What a coincidence. What are you doing here?”
Jiang Yunzhou greeted him with feigned surprise, as if they had simply run into each other by chance.
Secretary Zhou was startled by her voice. When he saw Jiang Yunzhou, his expression changed slightly.
“I have something important to handle, so I came by.”
Jiang Yunzhou gave a dry laugh. “I wonder whether I’m allowed to know what important matter requires coming to the set. I don’t remember the Shen Group having any collaboration with Director Xu.”
Secretary Zhou’s eyes flickered twice as he said in a low voice, “I’m sorry, Miss Jiang. Without Mr. Shen’s permission, I can’t disclose the company’s confidential matters to you.”
Jiang Yunzhou’s fingers tightened. “Fine. You don’t have to tell me anything confidential. Just tell me whether Shen Ruizhang has any connection with Director Xu.”
Secretary Zhou hesitated.
That brief hesitation caused a flash of disappointment to cross Jiang Yunzhou’s eyes.
“When did this happen?”
Secretary Zhou pressed his lips together and still did not answer. Seeing that Jiang Yunzhou was still unwilling to give up, he said helplessly, “Miss Jiang, if you have any questions, you should ask Mr. Shen.”
Jiang Yunzhou slowly loosened her clenched hand, then gave a cold laugh.
“Fine. Since you won’t tell me, I’ll ask Shen Ruizhang myself.”
