Chapter 103: The Bridge Belongs to the Bridge, the Road Belongs to the Road
"Sang Bai was harassed by the director of the film crew and doesn’t want to continue working there. Sister Jiang, what should we do?"
The assistant spoke helplessly, awaiting Jiang Yunzhu's response.
She was only a junior assistant, encountering such a situation for the first time, and immediately thought of Jiang Yunzhu.
Jiang Yunzhu’s expression darkened at the news.
"Are you sure?"
The assistant whispered, "I’m sure, but... there’s no evidence."
"Alright, I understand. Tell Sang Bai to protect herself. I’ll find someone to investigate."
"Okay!"
Shen Tingxiao had no idea what was happening; he simply noticed Jiang Yunzhu’s sudden shift in demeanor and quickly said, "Yunzhu, is something troubling you? Let me help!"
Just as he finished speaking, the door was knocked.
"Who is it?"
"Young master, the master asks you to come over."
Shen Tingxiao paused before responding, "Understood, I’ll be there right away."
The words Jiang Yunzhu was about to speak were swallowed back. "Go handle your business. I should be able to deal with this. If I really can’t, I’ll let you know."
Shen Tingxiao nodded and walked out. At the door, he turned back to Jiang Yunzhu and said, "Yunzhu, why don’t you rest in my room for a while? This banquet isn’t particularly important."
Jiang Yunzhu smiled, "If I stay in your room for too long, word will reach your mother, and she’ll be upset again. The blame will fall on you. Don’t forget, I’m already married."
She was now a married woman, and being too close to Shen Tingxiao would adversely affect him.
Upon hearing this, Shen Tingxiao’s expression grew even darker.
"Yunzhu, I hope you’ll divorce Shen Ruizhang soon. You promised me, my fiancée."
Jiang Yunzhu pressed her lips together. "After grandmother’s health fully recovers, I’ll bring it up."
Only then did Shen Tingxiao’s tightly furrowed brow relax a little.
"I’m going now. If anything comes up, contact me."
"Alright."
After Shen Tingxiao left, I departed as well.
I happened to run into Shen Ruizhang, who was waiting for me.
Jiang Yunzhu’s brows furrowed immediately. "Uncle."
Hearing this address, Shen Ruizhang’s expression dimmed, reminding her, "Yunzhu, we’re married now. You should change how you call me."
Jiang Yunzhu pressed her lips together and replied coldly, "Uncle, there’s nothing between us. Why deceive ourselves?"
Shen Ruizhang’s mood sank, but he insisted, "There is something. You used to like me. If we spend enough time together, you’ll like me again."
Jiang Yunzhu found his words amusing, "Uncle, I did like you once, but that was in the past. A heart shattered is not so easily mended. Besides, have you truly forgotten Zhou Qingfei?"
She hadn’t forgotten that when Shen Ruizhang learned Zhou Qingfei’s child was gone, the first person he suspected was her.
How could she love someone who never trusted her?
Mentioning Zhou Qingfei made Shen Ruizhang’s face shift uneasily, his expression stiff.
"It’s over between me and Zhou Qingfei. Now I know her true nature."
"You mean, knowing her true nature means you don’t love her anymore? Uncle, haven’t you also seen my true nature? In your mind, I’m a ruthless woman who wouldn’t spare even a child."
Shen Ruizhang spoke with difficulty, "It’s not like that."
"Uncle, the banquet has already begun. You’d better hurry over. It doesn’t matter if I attend or not, as long as I show my face. But you can’t be absent—you represent the attitude of the Shen family’s branch."
Shen Ruizhang gritted his teeth, "Yunzhu, must you misunderstand me this way?"
"I’ve never misunderstood you; you’re the one who misunderstands others."
Jiang Yunzhu had no desire to waste more words with Shen Ruizhang. Her mind was preoccupied with Sang Bai’s situation.
Once Shen Ruizhang was called away, I sought out the assistant to learn more.
Sang Bai’s assistant seemed unclear about the details, only that she’d witnessed Sang Bai being harassed by the director—little tricks, handsy behavior. Ordinary actresses could only endure such things.
Sang Bai, however, was not someone who would tolerate it, and Jiang Yunzhu feared Sang Bai might do something irreparable.
She instructed the assistant to keep a close eye on Sang Bai, ensuring nothing irreversible happened.
After the banquet ended, Jiang Yunzhu waited a long while before finally seeing Shen Ruizhang and Shen Tingxiao’s mother.
The woman looked at Jiang Yunzhu with disdain and said coldly, "Shen Ruizhang, since Miss Jiang is your wife now, keep a close watch on her. Don’t let her stray!"
Shen Ruizhang’s face darkened instantly.
"Yunzhu would never do such a thing! Madam Shen, you’re insulting her!"
Shen Tingxiao’s mother sneered, "She seduces men in public, and you claim I’m insulting her? Fine, I won’t meddle in your marital affairs—just don’t let her corrupt my son! She was never fit for polite society, and I hope she doesn’t become even more disgraceful!"
Jiang Yunzhu had intended to avoid confrontation, but she hadn’t expected the woman to disparage her own son so ruthlessly.
She could no longer hold back.
"I don’t know what Madam Shen is talking about, but it’s the first time I’ve seen a mother value a false son more than her real one, mistaking a worthless thing for treasure. To debase your own child—what does that make you, his mother? If you insult others, don’t forget you might be insulting yourself."
Madam Shen’s face changed abruptly, glaring furiously at Jiang Yunzhu.
"Sharp-tongued!"
"Thank you for the compliment."
"You—!"
Jiang Yunzhu smiled faintly. Shen Ruizhang then said, "Never mind, we’ll leave now."
He pulled Jiang Yunzhu out of the Shen family’s main residence.
"I’ll take you home," Shen Ruizhang said as Jiang Yunzhu walked in another direction.
Jiang Yunzhu refused expressionlessly, "We’re not going the same way."
Shen Ruizhang paused, puzzled, "We’re married; shouldn’t we live together? Mother hasn’t been discharged yet, so she’s unaware, but when she comes home and finds the newlyweds’ house empty, what will she think?"
Jiang Yunzhu laughed coldly, "Uncle, I told you, our marriage was forced by circumstances. Don’t take it too seriously. I hope in the future we go our separate ways and don’t interfere with each other."
Though Shen Ruizhang was unwilling, he saw the expression on Jiang Yunzhu’s face and refrained from saying anything that might anger her.
"Fine, I’ll take you home. It’s late, and I don’t feel comfortable letting you go alone."
In the end, Jiang Yunzhu was escorted home by Shen Ruizhang.
But she did not let him stay.
