“If I had to give my profession a title, it would probably be... the third-generation rich kid who stays at home.” Zhou Luoxi’s smile was devilishly charming, denying Ye Zehong any chance to dig deeper.

Lu Yao almost lost her breath, her smile bitter as she glanced at Ye Zehong, only to find his face expressionless, betraying nothing.

She quickly added, “ALL is the heir to his family. He doesn’t need to work.”

Ye Zehong’s expression shifted slightly as he looked at Zhou Luoxi, sensing a faint threat. An heir who doesn’t need to work? That alone spoke volumes about his family’s power. No wonder, when they broke up, Lu Yao wired him twenty million without so much as batting an eye. For her to stay on at Wenjie Law Firm, she must be working on something truly important.

The three of them entered the apartment.

At once, they were stunned by the scene inside.

The place had been ransacked. Everything was turned upside down, chaos everywhere.

“This is bad,” Zhou Luoxi said, stepping forward to find one of Lu Yao’s intimate garments amidst the mess, his expression awkward. “These thieves are outrageous. They didn’t even spare... this.”

Lu Yao’s face was the very picture of embarrassment. She sighed helplessly. “Typical thugs. Their methods are utterly despicable.”

“Let’s pack up whatever we need and get out, before those people double back on us,” Zhou Luoxi said, lifting a takeout container from the table. The soup inside hadn’t yet gone bad, which meant the thieves had only just left.

Lu Yao nodded slightly, went upstairs to gather her things, and, as she left, felt a lingering sense of loss. After all, this was the first apartment she’d bought with her own hard-earned money—a little world that belonged only to her.

When Zhou Luoxi had first arrived in the capital, he immediately bought a standalone villa in the affluent district, complete with a swimming pool and a backyard garden.

Lu Yao gazed at the luxurious building before her, puzzled. “How long are you planning to stay in the capital?”

If he was only staying for ten days or so, buying such a lavish villa seemed a bit extravagant.

“It’s hard to say. Could be a week, could be a month.” Zhou Luoxi slung an arm around her shoulders. “Depends on when you’re ready to go back with me.”

“You’re leaving?” Ye Zehong’s icy voice sounded behind Lu Yao. She didn’t even have to turn to feel the chill in his gaze, as if he could devour her whole.

Her neck stiffened as she looked back. Sure enough, she met a pair of eyes as cold as ice, and her heart gave a little shudder.

“Of course Yao is going back. She doesn’t belong here,” Zhou Luoxi answered for her, meeting Ye Zehong’s frosty stare with a hint of provocation. “Or do you mean to keep her in this foreign city, where she has neither friends nor family?”

From the moment she arrived in the capital, Lu Yao had planned to return eventually, though she’d never set a date. First, she wanted to catch and punish the murderer from years ago. She hadn’t expected the search to drag on for three years.

Now, as Zhou Luoxi brought it up, a strange ache crept into her heart, as though she could already picture their farewell.

A cold wind swept past. She forced a smile. “It’s getting chilly. Let’s go inside.”

Zhou Luoxi, ever attentive, took her things and led her to the door of a room. The moment Lu Yao opened the door, she froze.

She found herself gazing at a pale blue, ocean-themed room. Her heart swelled with emotion and her eyes reddened.

“Yao, I remember when we were kids, lying on the lawn of the manor, you once told me you dreamed of having an ocean park of your own when you grew up.”

Zhou Luoxi shot a glance at Ye Zehong, his lips curling in a triumphant smile, as if to show off how well he understood Lu Yao’s heart.
