As the dagger plunged down, Lu Yao shielded her abdomen with her briefcase, which held her laptop and important documents. The sharp blade pierced through the case, scratching the surface of the laptop. The bearded man paused in surprise, then raised his fist and swung it fiercely toward Lu Yao's face.

Lu Yao was no pushover—she’d learned self-defense. As his fist descended, she twisted her waist to the side, causing him to miss. He kept swinging, and she dodged again, slipping sideways. Seizing the moment as he switched hands, she kicked hard at his knee.

The bearded man cried out in pain, dropping to one knee, his face contorted as he shouted, "The judge already ruled in our favor, but you meddling bitch just had to interfere! I'll make sure you learn your lesson today."

He raised his dagger again, bracing his hand against the ground, ready to stab Lu Yao’s thigh. With all her strength, Lu Yao drove her foot into his groin. The man howled, clutching himself in agony, glaring at her, about to spit out another threat when she kicked him in the face. His head spun, and with a dull thud, he collapsed to the ground.

Just then, Zhang Xiaoxin pulled up in her car, shouting, "Attorney Lu, get in! His accomplices are coming from the elevator!"

Lu Yao glanced toward the elevator and saw several familiar faces rushing toward her. One of them spotted her and immediately yelled, "You bitch, don’t run!"

Her heart skipped a beat. She sprinted to the car, and as the door slammed shut, the bearded man's accomplices were already blocking the hood.

It was the first time Zhang Xiaoxin had witnessed a plaintiff retaliate against a defense attorney. She was pale, her hands trembling, frozen in fear, unsure what to do.

A burly man knocked on the passenger window, contorting his face into a menacing sneer.

Inside the car, Lu Yao and Zhang Xiaoxin were visibly shaken, faces grim.

Zhang Xiaoxin’s voice quivered. "Attorney Lu, what do we do? They look dangerous."

"This is the courthouse parking lot—security should be tight. Let’s wait. The guards should be on their way," Lu Yao replied, forcing herself to sound calm. But before she finished, the burly man began pounding on the window, and she felt the oppressive sensation that the glass was about to shatter.

"Oh my god," Zhang Xiaoxin gasped, fear rising in her voice. "Attorney Lu, look! That man has a fire extinguisher—he’s going to smash our car!"

Lu Yao looked ahead. A man nearly three hundred pounds, with a vicious expression, was approaching with a fire extinguisher in hand.

She glanced in the rearview mirror and confirmed there was no one blocking their escape. She scrambled into the driver’s seat, and before the man could bring the extinguisher down on their car, threw the gear into reverse and sped backward.

The fire extinguisher missed, crashing to the ground with a resounding clang that echoed through the underground parking lot.

"This bitch is slippery," the burly man sneered, sniffing disdainfully and gesturing forward. "Brothers, go! Let’s give these bitches a real show—show them what we’re made of!"

Three or four large men rushed toward the car, climbing onto it and jumping with force.

In an instant, the vehicle rocked violently, like a children's ride at an amusement park. The swaying was so intense that Zhang Xiaoxin became dizzy, nausea rising in her throat.

Clutching her mouth, Zhang Xiaoxin fought the urge to vomit, her eyes pleading as she looked at Lu Yao, her voice trembling and on the verge of tears. "Attorney Lu, if the guards don’t come soon, these men will… Ah—"

Bang!

The windshield shattered under a blow from the fire extinguisher, cracks spreading like a spider’s web.
