Chapter 49: There's No One I Can't Handle
Yeh Eng Tower, upper floors, Vice President’s office.
Zehong Ye stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking the entire CBD, his gaze cold and sharp.
Shen Yang handed him a file, reporting, “Young Master Ye, it’s been thoroughly investigated. Last night, the people dining with Miss Luyao were Jianming Huo, the CEO of Huo Group, and Melinda from Dacheng Law Firm. Rumor has it, Jianming Huo tried to coerce Miss Luyao and Melinda into something unsavory. Miss Luyao refused but didn’t want to lose the opportunity, so she drank half a bottle of baijiu.”
Half a bottle of baijiu?
Jianming Huo actually dared to make his woman drink like that?
Zehong Ye clenched his hands tightly at his sides, his expression icy. “Continue.”
“Huo built his fortune on cosmetic medicine. He owns ninety-nine beauty clinics nationwide. Business has been bad these past years, so he’s been running scams with prepaid cards at his salons.”
“Let those who were scammed go trouble him.”
“I’m afraid the one in chaos will be Miss Luyao. After all, she just secured the Huo Group’s legal counsel contract last night—for five years!”
Bang!
Before Shen Yang could finish, Zehong Ye slammed all the documents to the floor.
He sneered coldly, “There’s no one I can’t handle!”
Half an hour later.
Videos and photos of Jianming Huo using his position to harass female employees spread across major online platforms, the scandal’s popularity soaring until it topped the trending searches.
Netizens condemned Huo Group, demanding the removal of Jianming Huo as chairman.
The police received an anonymous tip from a female employee. The evidence was irrefutable. Jianming Huo was taken away during a board meeting.
At the same time, Huo Group’s stock plummeted.
As for Melinda, the wife of a man she had shamelessly seduced confronted her, slapped her so hard her face swelled, broke her teeth, and sent her to the emergency room.
…
Luyao was racking her brain, troubled over how to win the second trial and overturn the verdict in the Green Frontier Environmental case, when Wenjie Xu appeared before her with a cup of coffee, eyes narrowed in a smile. “Luyao, I didn’t expect you to be so capable.”
“Capable of what?” Luyao rolled her eyes, a bit irritable.
“You haven’t heard? President Huo got arrested, and Melinda was beaten into the hospital,” Wenjie said in amazement.
“President Huo arrested? When did this happen?” Luyao shot up from her seat, visibly agitated. “Last night, President Huo just agreed to give me Huo Group’s legal counsel contract for the next five years. If he’s arrested, I drank for nothing?”
That was half a bottle of baijiu!
Despair overwhelmed Luyao.
“It wasn’t for nothing.” Wenjie took out the agreement he’d been hiding behind his back and handed it to her. “Huo Group already sent over their preliminary draft this morning. Review the terms, make revisions, and send it back as soon as possible so you can sign quickly. Also, after seeing the scandal online, President Huo’s wife is filing for divorce. He specifically requested you to handle his divorce case.”
A smile finally broke across Luyao’s face. “Not a loss. I’ve actually gained another case.”
Wenjie took a sip of coffee, musing, “Luyao, you’re really gunning for partnership, aren’t you? You just landed the Xunda Technology proposal, now you’ve signed Huo Group. Are you planning to snatch Ye Group’s legal counsel contract next?”
Luyao snapped her fingers at Wenjie. “Exactly. You guessed right.”
Wenjie’s expression shifted, anxiety flickering in his eyes.
He warned, “Don’t say I didn’t remind you. You’re openly poaching Dacheng Law Firm’s clients now. Be careful—they might retaliate.”
Luyao smiled calmly.
Poaching? What did that mean?
The Xunda Technology proposal was a fair and open competition—the best person won.
She risked her health drinking to win Huo Group’s case.
As for Ye Group’s legal counsel, Yingtang Ye hadn’t cut corners and handed it to her directly.
Every opportunity she’d earned had been by her own merit. Did that count as poaching?
