Chapter 121: Please Don’t Push Me, Alright?
“I don’t know.”
Lu Yao’s face suddenly went pale, her eyes reddening as she spoke softly, “If you were trapped in a desperate situation, with death as the only escape, and by chance, an angel-like person appeared before you, rescuing you from hell and leading you to a life of happiness—how would you feel about this angel?”
Ye Zehong sneered coldly, “I never entertain hypotheticals. I only pursue genuine feelings in the present.”
He refused to imagine because he knew exactly who she was referring to—the desperate her from years ago, and Zhou Luoxi, who had been like a savior to her.
“I understand.”
The air inside the car instantly chilled. Lu Yao glanced out as the vehicle returned to the bustling city, softly saying, “Stop at the next intersection. I’ll take a taxi back myself.”
Ye Zehong didn’t slow down; instead, he slammed the accelerator. With only a second left on the green light, he sped through the intersection.
The speed was so fast it felt like drifting. Lu Yao, caught off guard, was thrown forward by inertia, papers scattering everywhere.
Just as her head was about to hit the dashboard, a gentle hand caught her.
Frowning, Lu Yao looked up at the owner of the hand. As she gathered her papers, she scolded, “Ye Zehong, what are you playing at? You nearly scared me to death just now!”
Ye Zehong’s dark, fathomless eyes fixed on Lu Yao as if trying to consume her whole.
“Lu Yao, I warned you not to provoke the Ye family, to disappear from Beijing, but you insisted on opposing me. For three years, you had no ties with the Ye family, yet now you fearlessly infiltrate its core. I want you gone, and you refuse. I want you to fight alongside me in the Ye family, and you won’t. Your attitude toward me fluctuates between hot and cold. Tell me—what exactly do you want?!”
For the first time, Ye Zehong lost control in front of Lu Yao. His bloodshot eyes were filled with resentment as they bore into her.
What did she want?
She simply wanted justice for her deceased mother and the childhood that had been destroyed.
If she refused to let him drag her into the old grudges, what was wrong with that?
“Sorry, Mr. Ye. I promise I won’t...” Lu Yao took a deep breath, doing her best to keep calm. “I promise from now on, our relationship will be strictly professional, nothing beyond that.”
Hearing her try to distance herself, Ye Zehong’s heart instantly grew cold. His deep gaze fixed relentlessly on her. Finally, showing no emotion whatsoever, he unlocked the front passenger door.
He returned to his usual composed and aloof demeanor, staring straight ahead as he spoke coldly, “If you want to leave, I won’t stop you. But if you get out now, it means you’re completely giving up on the three years we shared.”
“Please don’t force me,” Lu Yao said with a pained expression, her eyes as red as a frightened rabbit’s. “ALL means family to me. I can’t cut ties with him because of you. You’re forcing me to choose between ALL and you—I can’t choose, nor want to. You and he mean different things to me. If I must choose, I’ll choose ALL.”
She reached for the door handle and, before stepping out, sighed helplessly. “This choice is forced upon me by you.”
Without looking back, she got out and walked away.
Ye Zehong watched her retreating figure, his dark eyes growing even darker and more intense.
He let out a cold, bitter laugh, casually lighting a cigarette. Sitting in the car with hazard lights flashing, he exhaled smoke slowly.
Did he force her?
