Chapter 136: He Is My Brother
The car lurched forward violently.
Ye Zehong, quick-witted and agile, pulled Lu Yao tightly into his arms, his own back taking the brunt of the impact against the seat. He let out a muffled groan, steadying his body to ensure that Lu Yao’s injured shoulder was not jarred again.
The screech of the car’s brakes was piercing.
Nestled in Ye Zehong’s embrace, Lu Yao asked nervously, "What happened outside?"
The driver, Shen Yang, stammered, "A luxury car suddenly swerved in front of us, blocking our path. We almost hit it. Thank goodness..."
"Who is it? So vicious!" Lu Yao growled in indignation. She raised her head to look ahead, frowning. "Blatantly violating traffic rules and disregarding the lives of others! I’m going to sue this reckless lunatic and make sure they rot in jail!"
No sooner had she finished speaking than she saw Zhou Luoxi—wearing a blue shirt and black trousers, his hair slightly disheveled—step out from the driver’s seat of the luxury car that had cut them off.
Her expression shifted slightly, and she let out a helpless sigh.
She looked at the bewildered Shen Yang and said, "I’m sorry, that’s my brother."
Hearing this, Shen Yang’s lips trembled slightly. "It... it... it’s fine."
Lu Yao prepared to get out of the car, only to find her waist held firmly in Ye Zehong’s grip, leaving her unable to move. Ye Zehong gazed into her eyes and shook his head gently.
"I’m sorry, I have to go home with my brother."
Lu Yao took a deep breath and began to pry his fingers, one by one, from around her waist.
Just as the final finger was pried away, his burning lips descended to seal hers. Ye Zehong wanted to bite down hard, yet he feared hurting her; he could not bear for her to shed another drop of blood.
Watching her back as she exited the vehicle, he reminded her softly, "Your shoulder muscle is strained. Remember to apply some medicated oil when you get home."
"Okay. Thank you."
Lu Yao dared not look back. Her heart ached faintly, and her fingers felt icy as she pushed the door open. The moment her feet touched the ground, the car behind her sped away instantly. She watched the direction in which the car vanished, the light in her eyes dimming.
Zhou Luoxi came to her side and followed her gaze, his heart filled with an inexplicable sense of sorrow.
He explained anxiously, "Yao, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that woman was the killer you were looking for. If I had known it was her, I never would have saved her; I would have let her die under that woman’s blade."
Zhou Luoxi’s explanation caused Lu Yao to stiffen slightly as the scene on the rooftop flashed through her mind. Had Zhou Luoxi not saved Ye Hua, the one who died would not have been Sun Ying, but that vicious woman, Ye Hua.
Her heart grew cold. In an extremely detached tone, she replied, "Ye Hua is not destined to die yet."
Without even glancing at Zhou Luoxi, she silently got into the car, sat in the passenger seat, and fastened her seatbelt with cold, stiff fingers.
Zhou Luoxi stood at the front of the car, looking through the windshield at Lu Yao’s expressionless face. He knew very well that she was angry.
Whenever she was angry, she preferred to remain silent. She wouldn't even grant him the chance to have an argument. Whenever this happened, he felt completely helpless against her.
*Beep, beep, beep...*
Lu Yao honked the horn, urging Zhou Luoxi to leave.
Zhou Luoxi sighed silently and returned to his car. Watching the silent Lu Yao, he ultimately dared not say anything more and drove quietly back to the villa.
As soon as the car came to a stop, Lu Yao got out and headed inside. Just as she reached the stairs, Zhou Luoxi’s roar echoed from behind.
"Yao, can we not have a cold war?"
"I’m begging you, just say something. Hit me, scold me, do whatever you want. Just don't stay silent, please?"
