Lin Feng took Qin Han back to the hotel where he was staying. He had intended to book another room for him, but the hotel was fully occupied, so he had no choice but to bring Qin Han back to his own room.

“First, no more nonsense. Second, you sleep on the sofa.”

The moment they entered, Lin Feng made the decision without hesitation.

“Why?!”

“On what grounds do I have to sleep on the sofa? You’re my brother-in-law. You can’t treat me like this, or else...”

Qin Han refused to let it go.

“You can also choose to sleep in the corridor,” Lin Feng said, rolling his eyes. He had already endured Qin Han’s endless chatter all the way back, and by then he was far too tired to argue any further.

“Good night.”

With that, Lin Feng went straight into his room.

“Lin Feng, you’re done for. I’m definitely telling my sister how you’ve been mistreating me!” Qin Han roared toward Lin Feng’s room.

“If you keep talking, I’ll throw you straight into the corridor. If I remember correctly, you don’t seem to have any money left on you, do you?” Lin Feng said with a cold smile. Then he tossed Qin Han a blanket. “Sleep on the sofa quietly. There’s another person in the other room, so don’t disturb her!”

“Lin Feng, you can’t do this. You’re my brother-in-law, aren’t you? You...”

“Shut up. Or else...” Lin Feng pointed toward the door.

“Fine, you win.”

Clutching the blanket, Qin Han stormed off in a huff.

Lin Feng shut the door, and at last the world fell silent.

The next day.

Lin Feng was still half asleep when a shrill scream suddenly rang out from the living room.

“Y-you, who are you?!”

“Brother, there’s a thief in our room! Come out now!”

Immediately after, Lin Wen’s voice came from the living room.

“Crap. Wenwen doesn’t know I brought that chatterbox back,” Lin Feng thought, and hurriedly leaped out of bed and rushed outside.

In the living room, Lin Wen was holding Lin Feng’s guitar, used for composing, glaring warily at Qin Han, who lay on the sofa with groggy eyes.

“Wenwen, don’t be afraid. He’s my friend,” Lin Feng said.

“What? Your friend?” Lin Wen looked puzzled.

“I went out last night to pick him up. The hotel was full, so I had no choice but to bring him back here. But you were already asleep, so I didn’t get a chance to tell you.”

“Oh, I see.” Lin Wen pouted slightly and put down the guitar in her hand.

“Hello, beautiful lady. My name is Qin Han.” At that moment Qin Han sprang up from the sofa, struck what he imagined was a very handsome pose, and introduced himself.

“Oh. I’m Lin Wen. Lin Feng is my brother.”

“Good heavens, so we’re family!” Qin Han said with a grin. “Qin Ruolin is my sister.”

“You’re Sister Ruolin’s younger brother?” Lin Wen studied Qin Han carefully from head to toe. If one looked only at appearance, it really was possible; the siblings were both far too lovely.

“Wenwen, you’re really beautiful. Just now I even thought I was dreaming and had seen an angel,” Qin Han said, all smiles.

Flattered like that, Lin Wen immediately broke into a smile. What woman didn’t like hearing that she was beautiful?

“You really know how to talk. Isn’t that a bit too exaggerated?” she said, pressing her lips together.

“Not exaggerated at all, not one bit!” Qin Han said brightly. “Wenwen, you should have more confidence in yourself. To me, you’re even more beautiful than an angel!”

Hearing those words, Lin Feng’s heart was suddenly filled with a vague sense of foreboding. This chatterbox was probably trying to make a move on his little sister.

“Qin Han, you should call your sister again. Then go do whatever you snuck back to the country to do,” Lin Feng said quickly, changing the subject.

“No rush. My sister will definitely call me back when she sees my missed call. Since she hasn’t called yet, that means she’s still on the plane, or else she’s busy.” Qin Han then looked at Lin Wen again. “Wenwen, let’s add each other on the chat app. Since we’re family now, it’ll be easier to keep in touch.”

Lin Wen found it hard to refuse, so the two of them exchanged contact information.

That only made Lin Feng more worried. He had no desire to interfere in Lin Wen’s affairs, especially not in matters of romance, but he could not help being wary of Qin Han.

There was no way he could feel at ease with this guy as Lin Wen’s boyfriend.

“Brother, I’m going to wash up first. You two talk,” Lin Wen said, and went into the bathroom.

Lin Feng then dragged Qin Han onto the balcony and warned him, “Don’t you even think about targeting my sister. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you die very badly!”

“Brother-in-law, why say that? We’re all family here.” Qin Han grinned. “Don’t worry. From now on, I’ll take care of Wenwen as if she were my own little sister. For example, I can tutor her in English. She should still be in high school, right? I’ve heard the college entrance exam in your country is brutally competitive, like crossing a single-plank bridge through a sea of armies, and English scores are especially important. I came to America when I was very young, so my English is absolutely solid, and besides—”

“Stop!”

Seeing that he was about to launch into another endless speech, Lin Feng hurriedly cut him off.

“Later we’ll go out for breakfast. After that, I’ll check with the front desk to see whether anyone has checked out, and I’ll book another room for you.”

“No need to go to the trouble. I’m perfectly fine sleeping on the sofa. Booking another room would just be wasting money. Sure, you’re a professional basketball player, so maybe you earn more, but no matter how much you earn, you still have to be frugal, right? The global economy has been trending downward this year, and money isn’t easy to make. Even the richest man in America has seen his wealth shrink a lot, so—hey, brother-in-law, I’m not done yet... wait for me...”

“I have to book you another room! If this hotel has nothing available, we’ll go to another hotel and book one there!” Lin Feng said as he caught up to Qin Han. He truly could not stand this big-mouthed windbag any longer.

Damn it—how did he manage to jump from whether to book a room all the way to a global economic crisis? It was enough to leave anyone speechless.

“Why??”

“I’m perfectly fine staying here,” Qin Han said gloomily, spreading his hands.

“Didn’t you say last night that making you sleep on the sofa was mistreatment? I don’t want you running off to complain to your sister,” Lin Feng said.

“I was joking last night. Besides, after sleeping on it for one night, I realized this sofa is unbelievably comfortable. Oh my God, it’s a thousand times more comfortable than the water bed at my home in America—no, ten thousand times. Brother-in-law, you may not know this, but the quality of one’s sleep has a huge impact on every aspect of health. Two professors from Harvard in America once conducted a survey. People who sleep well tend to live longer and fall ill less often, and their sex lives are more harmonious as well. On the other hand, if sleep quality is poor...”

“Stop!!”

Lin Feng was utterly convinced by this guy.

“By the way, you said just now that when you were very young, your parents sent you to America, right?” Lin Feng asked.

“Yes. When I was seven, so my English is especially strong. Tutoring Wenwen is absolutely no problem—”

“Stop, stop, stop. That’s not my point. I want to ask: do you know why your parents sent you to America when you were so little?”

“Of course it was so I could get a better education.”

“No! No! No!” Lin Feng shook his head. “I think it was definitely because the house was too noisy...”

“The house was too noisy? What kind of reason is that?” Qin Han asked, bewildered.

Lin Feng was speechless again. So this guy wasn’t just a chatterbox; his intelligence seemed to be a problem too. He could not even understand something this simple.

“Forget it. Never mind.” Qin Han no longer bothered to think about what Lin Feng meant and continued, “Brother-in-law, I saw an unfinished song on the coffee table last night. I want to know whether that song was written by you.”

Qin Han picked up the notebook Lin Feng had left on the coffee table the previous night. It contained the second song Lin Feng had prepared for Music PK Arena, only a little short of completion.

“You understand music too?” Lin Feng asked casually.

“Of course. I studied pop music in America. My sister is the queen of the music world, so as her younger brother, how could I possibly know nothing about music? Besides, my dream is to become a top-tier singer, so I won’t embarrass my sister...” Qin Han went on. “Also, the reason I secretly came back this time is to compete on The Voice of China. I believe I have the strength to prove myself on that stage!”

“You’re going to compete on The Voice of China?”

Qin Han’s reason for returning to the country was completely unexpected to Lin Feng. This guy looked so carefree and talkative—could someone like that really sing well?

“You don’t believe I have the talent? Fine, then I’ll sing this song you wrote... though it does seem kind of terrible...”

Qin Han took Lin Feng’s score, read through it once, then matched it with the lyrics and began to sing.

If those two words had not trembled
I would never have realized how much I was hurting

How can I say it?
It is nothing more than a breakup

If tomorrow holds no demands
Then holding hands is just like traveling

Among tens of thousands of doorways
There will always be one person who leaves first

Since embrace can no longer remain
Then why not, at the moment of parting,
Let the tears fall even as we savor it all...
