The chubby man put on quite a show, nearly in tears as he recounted to the police how his group had been beaten up. After listening, the officer asked, “Where are the people who attacked you?”

“They’re in that car,” the chubby man replied, pointing to Qin Ruolin’s vehicle.

Lin Feng didn’t wait for the police to summon him; he got out of the car on his own.

“So it was you who beat them?” the officer asked, pointing at Lin Feng.

“That’s right, it was him.” With the police present, the chubby man felt emboldened and straightened his back.

“You must be joking. There were nearly twenty of you, and you’re telling me one man beat you all?” The officer shot the chubby man a scornful look.

The chubby man blushed and muttered, “Officer, you don’t know—this guy’s really something, must’ve trained in martial arts.”

“Is that so?” The officer looked Lin Feng over, then suddenly paused. “Why do you look so familiar?”

“Hello, my name is Lin Feng,” Lin Feng introduced himself.

“Lin Feng?” The officer’s eyes went wide. “It really is Lin Feng! No wonder you looked familiar—I just saw you on TV, and now I’m seeing you in person!”

The officer scrutinized Lin Feng again before asking coldly, “So, you’re the one who beat them?”

“They started it,” Lin Feng replied.

“It doesn’t matter who started it. Did you hit them or not?” the officer demanded, his expression stern.

“I did,” Lin Feng answered truthfully.

“If you did, what more is there to say? Xiao Zhang, Xiao Liu, cuff him and bring him in!” The lead officer waved his hand, and two young officers immediately moved to restrain Lin Feng and put him in handcuffs.

“Wait! On what grounds are you cuffing me?” Lin Feng protested.

“You assaulted someone. Of course we’re cuffing you,” the officer replied.

“But they hit me too. Why aren’t you cuffing them?” Lin Feng pointed at the chubby man and his group.

“Are you telling me how to do my job? Are you the police, or am I?” The officer shot Lin Feng a withering glare.

Lin Feng frowned. It was clear this officer was targeting him, but at the moment, Lin Feng had no way to fight back. No matter the reason, he had indeed hit someone.

“Fine, if you must cuff me, so be it. But my friend is injured. Please take her to the hospital first,” Lin Feng said, gesturing toward the car where Qin Ruolin sat.

The officer glanced inside, his expression still cold. “We’ll see to it that the injured are taken to the hospital. Xiao Zhang, Xiao Liu, escort Lin Feng to the station. Make sure those cuffs are tight so he doesn’t get away!”

“That’s too much, officer! Who do you think I am? Run away over something this trivial? Don’t insult me,” Lin Feng retorted angrily.

“Lin Feng, don’t think you’re still some sports star. Right now, you’re just a suspect!” The officer jabbed a finger at Lin Feng’s nose.

“You haven’t even investigated the matter. On what basis do you call me a suspect?” Lin Feng fired back.

“You just admitted to hitting someone. What, trying to take it back now?” The officer eyed him skeptically.

“I did hit someone, but it was self-defense. They attacked me first and injured my friend. I had no choice but to fight back,” Lin Feng argued.

“Save it! Hitting someone is hitting someone—no need for all these excuses! You can explain yourself at the station. Take him away!”

With a wave of his hand, the lead officer had Lin Feng cuffed and shoved toward the police car.

This lead officer was Wang Jun—who, as it happened, was the nephew of Wang Chunsheng. That was why, after learning Lin Feng’s identity, he made things difficult for him.

“Stop!”

Seeing them handcuff Lin Feng without a word, Qin Ruolin, clutching her wound, hurried out of the car.

“You’re Qin Ruolin?” Wang Jun recognized her at once; after all, she was a household name.

“I’m also the one who called the police,” Qin Ruolin said coldly, walking up to Wang Jun. “I want to know why you’re arresting my friend while ignoring the people who assaulted me?”

She removed the handkerchief from her forehead, revealing a bloody, alarming wound. In truth, the injury wasn’t severe, but the bleeding hadn’t been stopped, so blood streaked down the right side of her face, making the sight rather shocking.

Upon seeing the wound, Wang Jun’s brows knitted together. This was far beyond what he had expected.

Wang Jun had assumed this was just a scuffle between a player and some fans. As an officer, detaining Lin Feng was standard procedure. But now, with Qin Ruolin involved—a major celebrity with substantial influence—the situation became far more complicated.

“Miss Qin, I didn’t realize you were the victim,” Wang Jun said with a forced smile. “Your friend just admitted to the assault, so bringing him in is routine. As for those who hurt you, they’ll be dealt with just as severely.”

“My friend only acted to protect me. I was beaten like this—should he have stood by and done nothing?” Qin Ruolin’s face was cold. “I have no right to interfere with your investigation, but as the complainant, have you taken my statement? Have you investigated the incident thoroughly? All I’ve seen is you arresting my friend without a word. I now seriously question your impartiality. State your name and badge number—I intend to file a complaint!”

“Miss Qin, please, let’s not be hasty. This is all a misunderstanding,” Wang Jun said, breaking into a sweat at her threat. He had only detained Lin Feng to help his uncle, Wang Chunsheng, and as a local fan, he had a grudge over Lin Feng snatching the championship from their team. That was why he’d taken such a hardline approach upon seeing him.

In reality, as long as the fight didn’t have serious consequences, it was a civil matter. Police typically mediate after clarifying the facts, not detain people outright. Especially now, seeing that Lin Feng and Qin Ruolin were the real victims, he had even less reason to detain Lin Feng.

“Release him,” Wang Jun instructed the two officers holding Lin Feng. He then turned to Qin Ruolin. “My apologies, Miss Qin. I acted hastily based on one-sided information. I’ll conduct a thorough investigation at the station, but I’ll need you and Lin Feng to come with us to give your statements.”

“As long as you act impartially, I’m happy to cooperate,” Qin Ruolin replied, her face expressionless.

“Very well. Miss Qin, I’ll send someone to escort you to the hospital for treatment, and afterward, we’ll take your statement. Is that acceptable?” Wang Jun asked politely.

Qin Ruolin nodded. “That’s fine, but Lin Feng must stay with me.”

“Of course. You’re both victims here,” Wang Jun replied with a smile.
