Volume One: The Calamity of the Lich Chapter 175: The Moon's Heart Withdraws, Changxi's Disappointment
“Sister! Have you really joined forces with the Celestial Court?”
Changxi walked softly to Xihe’s side, her crimson lips parting gently.
“Since you already know, little sister Changxi, why trouble yourself with questions and bring worry upon yourself?”
Xihe’s face remained expressionless at Changxi’s inquiry.
“Does sister truly wish to set our starry lineage against the Celestial Court? There shouldn’t be any star gods who bear grudges against you, right?”
After she finished speaking, Changxi looked at Xihe in confusion.
But Xihe’s face became twisted and sinister upon hearing this.
“Yes, you are correct. No one holds grudges against me. But they blocked my path. I refuse to linger in the starry sky like stagnant water, lifeless and unchanging!”
“Madness! Sister, how could you think such thoughts?”
Changxi gazed at the evil Xihe before her, feeling an unfamiliar strangeness, as though she had never truly known her at all. Changxi looked at Xihe with a trace of fear, stepping back several paces.
“Who are you? You are not my sister Xihe!”
Changxi suddenly stared at Xihe, her voice trembling.
Xihe burst into wild laughter, then spoke to Changxi.
“How could that be, my dear sister? We were nurtured together on the Moon Star. You know me better than anyone. Could you fail to recognize my aura? How heartbreaking for your sister!”
Soon after, Xihe spoke again.
“Oh, I see. You are frightened of me, aren’t you? How ironic, after sharing our birth and nurture, that you now feel fear toward me, little Changxi!”
As she spoke, icy tears fell from Xihe’s face, striking the cold ground before the Palace of Eternal Frost and instantly turning into pure, sacred blossoms of ice.
“Stop this, sister Xihe!”
Changxi looked at the frenzied Xihe and spoke with difficulty.
“Stop? Too late! At this point, there’s no turning back. You’re still so naïve, little sister!”
With that, Xihe flung countless shadowy blades toward Changxi.
But Xihe suddenly realized her attack was blocked by a powerful barrier of prohibition.
“So you did strike at me, sister. I never thought this day would come.”
Changxi gazed sorrowfully at the twisted, ferocious Xihe.
“How could you withstand my strike?”
With a metallic clang, a silver ring-shaped treasure appeared in Xihe’s hand. She looked at Changxi in disbelief.
“Why not? Xihe, you truly underestimate me!”
Changxi no longer addressed Xihe as sister, her face expressionless as she stared at her.
Xihe finally sensed something and looked back at Changxi.
“How is this possible? Haven’t you been unable to advance to the rank of Primordial Golden Immortal? How did you break through? Impossible!”
Xihe muttered “impossible” repeatedly, staring at Changxi with resentment.
“Nothing is impossible. With enough accumulation, it is not truly unattainable to step into the Primordial Golden Immortal realm. It’s just that the method I used is much harder than yours.”
“But you...!”
Xihe could not believe what she saw, staring at Changxi hysterically.
“Perhaps you don’t know, sister. When you went to the Purple Cloud Palace to listen to the Dao, a great change swept the wilderness. Many received blessings, some even took the opportunity to break through their realms.”
“And now, sister, your plan will not succeed. You will regret what you’ve done.”
“Regret? No, I will never regret it. You don’t realize, do you? The starry sky is about to end!”
Xihe spoke as she laughed wildly.
Changxi merely shook her head in resignation. She saw clearly now—Xihe’s mind was fixed, unchangeable. No matter what, Xihe had long since decided. Changxi knew her best of all.
To Xihe, she simply didn’t want to remain in the ancient starry sky, and after several visits to listen to the Dao, she saw people from beyond and learned the method to break through to Quasi-Saint. Perhaps it was also because of Emperor Jun.
Xihe found herself on par in realm with Changxi, but in terms of power, she was only a Quasi-Saint, unable to match Changxi’s breakthrough to Primordial Golden Immortal. If Changxi had not cherished their old bond and refrained from fighting her, Xihe would never have had a chance.
“Hmph! Since you wish to stay forever on this cold Moon Star, you may do so alone!”
Xihe glanced at Changxi, snorted coldly, and swept her sleeves, departing.
Watching Xihe leave, Changxi stared at her figure, sighing in disappointment.
Celestial Court, Hall of Supreme Presence.
“Did Xihe really say that?”
After hearing Nuwa’s words, Emperor Jun asked with a blank expression.
“Does the Heavenly Emperor think I am making things up?”
Nuwa frowned and replied.
“You misunderstand me, Empress Nuwa. I merely asked out of habit.”
“Xihe’s intentions are clear. Since that is so, I shall trouble Empress Nuwa to make another trip to the Moon Star.”
“I accept her conditions. I will see to it that she is welcomed to the Celestial Court with great honor.”
After a moment’s thought, Emperor Jun spoke again.
“Brother!”
“Enough, it’s settled. This is the first joyous event in my Celestial Court, as it should be!”
Emperor Jun cut off Taiyi’s words.
He had no idea that Emperor Jun’s actions were motivated by his own considerations.
Taiyi, hearing this, did not wish to offend Emperor Jun and thus remained silent.
Soon after, countless great powers throughout the wilderness received word.
The Celestial Emperor of the Celestial Court was about to wed Xihe, goddess of the ancient starry sky’s Moon Star.
Many reacted to this news with their own opinions.
Eastern Sea, Purple Mansion Continent.
“Lord, does Emperor Jun intend to ally himself with the ancient starry sky?”
Within the Palace of Immortals, many questioned the Eastern Sovereign.
“Does the Western Queen Mother have any thoughts? I noticed you seem quite familiar with Xihe.”
At this, the Eastern Sovereign glanced at the Western Queen Mother, speaking meaningfully.
“What is the Lord suggesting? Xihe and I merely sat closer together, and as fellow female immortals, exchanged a few words.”
When she was mentioned, the Western Queen Mother looked calmly at the Eastern Sovereign.
“I meant nothing by it. Why should you think so, Western Queen Mother?”
The Eastern Sovereign quickly apologized.
“Hmph. That’s best.”
The Western Queen Mother snorted lightly and paid no further heed, drifting off in spirit.
In the end, no conclusions were reached, and all chose to wait and see.
Some believed the ancient starry sky remained aloof, and an alliance with the Celestial Court was impossible.
After all, over the years, had it not been for the Dao Ancestor’s lectures, the star gods of the starry sky would never have appeared in the wilderness.
