Volume One: The Lich Calamity Chapter 165: The Emergence of the Demonic Script, Gathering in the Northern Abyss
“It seems the strategist has sensed something as well!”
Fuxi cast a gentle gaze at Bai Ze, looking him over carefully.
“And the Heavenly Emperor—such a momentous event has occurred, yet he has not appeared?”
Upon hearing this, Taiyi stepped forward and replied,
“Elder brother has been in seclusion for quite some time now. I imagine he must have reached a critical juncture. Otherwise, he would never have remained absent.”
Hearing Taiyi’s words, the others had no objection. For cultivators, it was common to enter a retreat that could last for countless years.
Thus, they did not find anything amiss.
“I sense that something of utmost importance to our demon clan is about to emerge.”
At this, Nuwa suddenly spoke.
Bai Ze turned to her at once and inquired,
“Oh? Has Empress Nuwa divined where this object will appear?”
But Nuwa simply shook her head.
Seeing this, Bai Ze’s expression revealed both disappointment and anxiety.
“This makes things rather difficult.”
At his words, Fuxi sighed softly, then spoke helplessly,
“If there is no other way, I shall force a divination.”
But as soon as she heard this, Nuwa’s expression changed drastically. She looked at Fuxi with grave seriousness.
“No, brother! The toll on you would be too great. I absolutely forbid it.”
“But if we remain at an impasse like this and the opportunity falls into others’ hands, what becomes of the demon clan? Would we not become the laughingstock of the world?”
“But—”
Fuxi’s tone softened as he addressed Nuwa,
“Do not worry, little sister. If it becomes impossible, I will relinquish the attempt at once. I will not force myself.”
Yet some things, once begun, are not so easily abandoned.
Without further hesitation, Fuxi composed himself, restoring his state to its peak, and then invoked the secret method contained in his inheritance.
As the technique unfolded, he suddenly saw the image of a middle-aged man standing beneath the thunderclouds, engaged in some mysterious endeavor.
But the vision was extremely blurred; he could only make out a vague outline, and nothing more.
After a long while, Fuxi’s aura faltered, his face turning deathly pale as he looked at the others.
Seeing this, Taiyi quickly asked,
“Well, Emperor Fuxi, did you obtain any useful information?”
Nuwa frowned, her tone displeased,
“Let my brother rest a while. He is in poor condition now!”
As a devoted sister, Nuwa’s care for Fuxi was evident.
But Fuxi waved her concern aside.
“It’s nothing. I did glean a few things, though they are too vague. You must each use your judgment.”
He proceeded to describe the vision he had seen:
“Black waters, countless thunderclouds gathering, and one person at work amidst it all.”
Bai Ze and the others pondered deeply.
“How are we supposed to know where that is?”
Eastern Emperor Taiyi spoke, a hint of irritation in his voice,
But he failed to notice the subtle, indescribable look that flashed in Nuwa’s eyes as he spoke.
Yet Bai Ze had a different perspective.
“Black waters are rare in the world. There’s the Northern Sea, and also a place at the uttermost west that fits the description.”
“Then let us investigate each in turn. The far west now harbors no particularly powerful beings, while in the North, the great Kunpeng is known to dwell!”
Hearing Bai Ze’s analysis, Taiyi’s eyes brightened, and he said to the others,
“In that case, why don’t we head to the Northern Sea first?”
Fuxi interjected,
“That would not be prudent. We should also send a few swift and capable demon kings to the other locations, to investigate one by one.
That way, if our journey to the Northern Sea yields nothing, we will not be left completely in the dark.”
Upon his advice, Bai Ze meticulously formulated a strategy.
In the end, they summoned the demon saints and kings who remained in the Heavenly Court, dispatching several teams to the sites they suspected.
“Let us hope that at least one group finds something.”
Fuxi sighed.
With everything arranged, they set out directly for the Northern Sea.
Along the way, they encountered many others, including the two Westerners notorious for their opportunism.
“So it’s Sister Nuwa and the esteemed ones from the Heavenly Court! Where are you all headed? If our paths are the same, perhaps we can travel together?”
Zhunti spoke with a cheerful smile, his gaze fixed on Nuwa and her retinue.
“What ill fortune, to cross paths with these two,”
thought many of the demon kings and saints in the company.
“So it’s you, Zhunti and Jieyin. Is there some business that brings you here?”
Seeing this, Nuwa and Taiyi quickly released their auras, making their presence clear.
Jieyin, observing this, hurried forward and said,
“Sister Nuwa, it’s been some time since we last met, and your cultivation has grown so much! It’s all a misunderstanding; our meeting here was pure chance.”
Nuwa, seeing Jieyin’s genial manner, could not vent her displeasure, and said impatiently,
“Enough. Go attend to your own affairs—we won’t trouble you further.”
With that, she and the others departed hastily, paying the two Westerners no further mind.
As they watched Nuwa and her companions leave, Zhunti gave Jieyin a meaningful look.
“Brother, from their behavior, they must be after something important—perhaps a spiritual treasure.
Should we really let them go so easily?”
After a moment’s thought, Jieyin replied,
“In that case, let them lead. Whatever happens, they will face it first.”
The two exchanged a knowing smile and quickly followed.
Nuwa’s group, for their part, knew well that these two would not give up so easily.
But now, there was no time to concern themselves with the Westerners. If their mission was delayed, the loss would far outweigh any gain.
Meanwhile, in the depths of the Northern Sea, the jade tablet before Kunpeng was nearly covered with endless script.
As the last space was being filled, Kunpeng realized he was nearing his limit.
At this very moment, Nuwa and her companions arrived in the Northern Sea.
Seeing Kunpeng and the object before him—
“What is that?”
“A legacy!”
“Script!”
In that instant, as they beheld the jade tablet, realization dawned.
They understood that Kunpeng was creating a written language for the demon clan—a demon script to be passed down through the ages.
With this revelation, it was no longer possible to stand by as the creator of demon script remained outside their Heavenly Court’s fold.
One after another, each drew forth their treasures to shield Kunpeng from the heavenly wrath.
With their aid, Kunpeng rapidly inscribed the final characters onto the jade.
At that moment, the thunderbolts from the heavens came crashing down.
