Chapter 119: The Ground is Covered in Lightning-Struck Wood
Dūanmu Meng’er stared wide-eyed at Chu Han. Had this fellow gone mad? His opponents numbered more than seventy, yet he still dared to act so arrogantly. This was the first time she had ever seen him like this.
During the time she had spent with Chu Han, he had always been courteous and refined. There had been no trace of arrogance in him. Yet now he had transformed completely. This man was truly changeable.
And for some reason, the arrogant Chu Han possessed an entirely different kind of charm. His face carried an overwhelming confidence. No matter how many enemies stood before him, he remained utterly unmoved. Without realizing it, Duanmu Meng’er found her gaze fixed on his face.
“Kid, what did you say? Are you looking for death?”
“Damn it, don’t hold me back! I’m going to kill him. What arrogance!”
“You little bastard, I’ll give you three seconds to take back what you said. Otherwise, I’ll kill you right now.”
“…”
The moment Chu Han finished speaking, the surrounding crowd erupted. They roared furiously as they advanced, quickly surrounding the two of them. Yet Chu Han remained expressionless, as though the arrogant words had not come from him at all.
“You people talk too much. Aren’t you just after what I have? If you want it, then attack me and take it. What use is there in all this pointless chatter?”
Chu Han gave a cold snort. Since they did not dare to attack, it was his turn.
As soon as his voice fell, he charged into the crowd and drove a fist into one man’s chest. He moved so quickly that no one had time to react. The man was sent flying and crashed into a group of people behind him, instantly knocking more than a dozen of them to the ground with broken bones and torn tendons. The scene descended into chaos.
They had never imagined that Chu Han would dare to strike first. His action enraged them, and everyone drew their weapons, preparing to fight him to the death.
Chu Han shoved Duanmu Meng’er aside, pushing her out of the encirclement. He was more than capable of dealing with these people alone; there was no need for her to intervene.
Duanmu Meng’er understood his intention and stood to one side, waiting to watch him perform. At the Divine Bridge Realm, Chu Han was invincible. Though his opponents greatly outnumbered him, a rabble remained a rabble, whether there was one of them or a hundred. There was no great difference.
Facing attacks from every direction, Chu Han remained completely calm. He ducked beneath a barrage of strikes, then slammed his fist into the ground. The earth began to tremble before splitting apart, and the people around him lost their footing and fell heavily to the ground.
Chu Han then leaped into the air, avoiding most of the attacks. As he descended, he drove his foot viciously into one man’s stomach. The ground exploded beneath them, leaving behind a massive crater. The yellow earth was blasted into the air and hurled against several others.
Anyone struck by the flying soil suffered shattered bones and severe injuries, leaving them unable to rise again.
After only two or three moves, a large portion of the crowd lay sprawled across the ground. They had not even managed to touch the hem of Chu Han’s clothes. His tremendous strength prevented anyone from approaching him, and the sight was terrifying.
The surrounding people no longer dared to attack. Shock and fear filled their eyes as they stared at Chu Han. Could such power truly belong to a human? It was practically comparable to that of certain magical beasts.
But since they had stopped attacking, Chu Han naturally would not let them off. He plunged into the crowd, seized one man by the collar, and hurled him away with brutal force, sending him crashing into another dozen people.
He unleashed his full strength—one hundred and sixty thousand jin. No one could withstand even a single punch from him. More than twenty people lay scattered across the ground, their screams ringing without end.
Yet it was not over.
After realizing that they could not defeat Chu Han by attacking together, several groups from the same sect began coordinating their assaults. This method did have some effect. Chu Han could only dodge, leaving him no opportunity to retaliate.
After all, these people belonged to established sects. To found a sect and survive in Central City, a place crowded with powerful experts, they had to possess some real ability. Their combined attacks were executed with remarkable coordination, making them difficult for Chu Han to guard against.
However, this could only last for a while. Chu Han soon became familiar with their patterns, and once he did, dodging became effortless. He even found opportunities to counterattack.
With one punch, Chu Han sent a man flying more than ten meters. The man slammed violently into the wall behind him, his face turning deathly pale as blood and internal organs spewed from his mouth.
That single punch completely stunned the crowd. To send a two-hundred-jin man flying more than ten meters with one blow was a level of strength that could only be described as monstrous. Everyone trembled in fear and no longer dared to attack, terrified that they would be the next to die.
The survivors hurriedly turned to flee. Chu Han, however, moved with astonishing speed and blocked the entrance. This was a dead end with only one way in or out. As long as he guarded the entrance, none of them could escape.
“Heh. Weren’t you acting so arrogant just now? Why are you trying to run now? If you want to live, it’s simple. Take out what you have, and I’ll let you leave. Otherwise, every one of you will die here.”
Chu Han flexed his fingers, producing a series of bone-chilling cracks. His gaze was icy, and he looked like a god of death who had walked straight out of hell. The crowd no longer possessed even the courage to fight.
Everyone sighed and took out their belongings, placing them on the ground. One piece of thunderstruck wood after another appeared before Chu Han’s eyes. This time, he had truly struck it rich.
As for the sect members, remaining alive was already the best possible outcome. They abandoned all thoughts of resistance. Fighting back meant certain death, and so long as they could live, none of them wished to die.
Duanmu Meng’er did not remain idle either. She instructed several people to search those lying on the ground and bring out their possessions as well.
Once everything was finished, Chu Han moved away from the entrance. The crowd immediately rushed out in a frenzy. Several people glanced back at him with venomous expressions. They could do nothing to Chu Han while they were here, but once they left, they would surely mobilize the full strength of their sects to seek revenge.
Chu Han began gathering the items scattered across the ground, paying them no attention at all. Even if he had noticed their looks, he would only have sneered. These sects were all minor ones. He had already confirmed with Duanmu Meng’er that none of the supreme sects—such as Fire Dragon Valley, Sound Sect, or Supreme Unity Sect—were present.
Chu Han’s eyes shone brightly, and he laughed heartily like a nouveau riche. Duanmu Meng’er felt somewhat helpless. One moment he was unbearably arrogant; the next, he was like a child. She could no longer tell which one was the real Chu Han.
“We’ll split everything evenly. There are thirty pieces of thunderstruck wood, fifteen Thunder Tribulation Stones, and more pills and medicinal herbs than we can count. They aren’t particularly high-grade, but they’re better than nothing. These are our spoils of war.”
Chu Han naturally had not forgotten his partner. He proposed dividing the gains, for he could not keep so many pieces of thunderstruck wood and Thunder Tribulation Stones all to himself.
“No need. Keep them all. These things are of little use to me, and carrying them would only be a burden. You have a spatial ring, so you’re the only one who can carry so many items.”
Duanmu Meng’er smiled and shook her head. Seeing that Chu Han had obtained so many things useful to him without allowing greed to cloud his judgment—and that he had still remembered her—she quietly nodded to herself.
Very few people could do something like that these days. Most became blinded by the meager gains before them. The fact that Chu Han could maintain his composure was enough to prove that his future was boundless.
