Chapter Four: The Mind-Reading General Panics as the Fox Spoils the Iconic Scene!

“You passed out on your own; don’t try to twist things and accuse me of taking advantage.” Dongfang Jibai took out a headband and blindfolded himself.
His hand reached out toward Ji Ci, and the softness beneath his fingers stirred the beast within Dongfang Jibai, causing two streaks of crimson to form in his nostrils.
He was nosebleeding!
He, the general who never indulged in women, was nosebleeding!
If this got out, the enemy would laugh themselves to death!
Dongfang Jibai tilted his head back, pressed the cloth to his nose, took a deep breath, and, blindfolded, groped toward the bed.
His fingertips brushed a patch of delicate skin, but he recoiled as if electrified, then his hand landed on an even softer spot—
[System Notification: Host’s vital signs are recovering; expected to revert to fox form in 3 seconds.]
Dongfang Jibai searched the bed for a long while but couldn’t find Ji Ci’s body. He tore off the headband, his pupils trembling slightly.
On the bed lay a quiet red fox, curled snugly and sleeping soundly.
Dongfang Jibai leaned close to the little fox’s nose, confirmed she was merely asleep, then stepped out relieved.
“No one is allowed near the tent,” Dongfang Jibai ordered.
“Yes, General.”
He found Wang Feng and extended his hand. “Check if the poison in my body has been neutralized.”
Wang Feng raised an eyebrow, smiling. “Have you lost your mind? You were coughing up blood just now—are you dreaming now? Expecting the poison to be gone? Honestly, your poison will flare up again on the next full moon. You won’t die, but you won’t be able to father children in this lifetime.”
“Can’t father children? Why didn’t you tell me this earlier!” Dongfang Jibai clenched his hand until the joints cracked. How could such a big secret be kept from him?
Wang Feng patted Dongfang Jibai’s hand gently. “I misspoke—it’s not that you can’t be a man, you still are a man, just that you can’t have children.”
Dongfang Jibai breathed a sigh of relief; at least he could still be a man.
“Enough talk. Check if the poison is neutralized.” Dongfang Jibai held out his hand again.
Wang Feng placed his hand on Dongfang Jibai’s wrist. The carefree grin he had just moments ago vanished, replaced by a solemn expression.
His brows knit tightly, as if he had discovered something grave.
“So?”
“About eighty percent of the poison is neutralized, I can handle the remaining twenty percent. What kind of strange encounter did you have?” Wang Feng asked, curiosity getting the better of him.
Dongfang Jibai raised an eyebrow. “Your master sent me a dream, saying you’re unreliable and gave me the antidote recipe. I drank it and was cured instantly. You should seriously study medicine properly; you’re so careless it seems your master might come back from the grave in frustration.”
Dongfang Jibai was sharp-tongued and showed no mercy toward Wang Feng.
They had grown up together, bare-skinned, side by side. Wang Feng had a gift for medicine and was taken as a final disciple by the old ancestor of the Medicine King Valley.
After finishing his training, Wang Feng immediately came to Dongfang Jibai, asking him to support him in his later years.
Claiming to encourage him to study medicine, but it was thunderous nonsense.

He insisted Dongfang Jibai be responsible for him for the rest of his life.
Dongfang Jibai’s family was powerful and wealthy, and he had been supporting Wang Feng all these years. Wang Feng stayed with him in the army, becoming his personal military doctor.
“Jibai, be honest—how exactly did you neutralize the poison?” Wang Feng grabbed Dongfang Jibai’s arm, unwilling to believe his master would send him a dream.
If it were possible, it would have happened long ago.
When he set off firecrackers at his master’s grave, his master should have already sent a dream to Dongfang Jibai!
“Recite all the medical texts your master left behind, and then I’ll tell you,” Dongfang Jibai said slyly.
Wang Feng nodded immediately. “Fine, I’ll memorize them all and you tell me tomorrow.”
“I mean all of them, including the Medicine King Valley’s library,” Dongfang Jibai reminded him.
“Dongfang Jibai, you bastard! I’ve been your beast of burden for ten years, and now you want me to memorize that many books? Are you human?” Wang Feng pointed at Dongfang Jibai’s nose and cursed openly.
“It’s your master’s last wish. You haven’t fulfilled it in ten years. If you complete it within two months, maybe your master will come back to life in joy,” Dongfang Jibai said with a smile.
“You’re talking nonsense! My master was cremated! Cremated! He can’t come back to life!” Wang Feng stomped in frustration but was helpless against Dongfang Jibai.
“Memorize, then. When you’re done, you must tell me. Also, I’m heading back to Medicine King Valley soon to get the antidote recipe. Take the medicine on time, and you’ll be cured completely—able to father ten sons.” Wang Feng ran off to write the prescription and handed it to Dongfang Jibai.
Dongfang Jibai took the prescription and arranged for four guards to protect Wang Feng.
Wang Feng had talent in medicine but was hopeless in martial arts—his skills were pathetic, and even stray dogs could beat him.

Three days later, at the General’s Mansion.
Ji Ci woke up three days later.
Her stomach growled loudly.
“So hungry... so thirsty...”
Hearing Ji Ci’s voice, Dongfang Jibai immediately came out from the adjacent room. Before he even entered, Ji Ci continued shouting.
“System, I want to drink cola, ice-cold cola! And eat roast duck, roast goose, marinated chicken, marinated duck, and pine flower tripe—make them appear for me quickly!”
Ji Ci called out to the system in her mind.
The system rolled its eyes—it had no idea where to steal such things.
Dongfang Jibai turned around and ordered the kitchen to prepare all those foods.
Not knowing what ice-cold cola was, Dongfang Jibai had someone bring Ji Ci cold syrup water instead.
Ji Ci jumped out of bed but her legs gave way, and she collapsed onto all fours.
“Ouch.”
Hearing her, Dongfang Jibai hurried to the room and picked her up.

“Are you hurt?” Dongfang Jibai said as he reached to lift Ji Ci’s hind leg for inspection.
“You pervert! Let go of me!” Ji Ci shouted loudly.
Dongfang Jibai smiled awkwardly; he had forgotten this little fox was a fairy and had almost behaved like a beast!
“Your food will be ready soon. You’ve been asleep for three days; you must be starving,” Dongfang Jibai explained.
Ji Ci’s ears perked up, her eyes wide with shock.
Three days of sleep?
Was her body really that weak?
Just detoxifying and sleeping three days—if she were saving a critically ill person, wouldn’t it be half a month?
This healing ability must have a bug; it wasn’t like this before.
Ji Ci couldn’t find a reason and guessed it might be because she was now a fox.
The food arrived one after another, and Ji Ci leapt onto the table.
All her favorite dishes—she loved meat most of all!
The post-apocalyptic world had no meat, only vegetables grown in the space, eaten every day!
She had wanted to raise chickens and ducks, but no live animals could be found in the post-apocalypse, so she hadn’t eaten meat in years.
She devoured the meat heartily.
“So delicious.”
Why did the meat taste so good when chewed?
[Ding! Task complete. Reward granted. New task: Help Dongfang Jibai avoid being married off at the princess’s flower viewing banquet. Reward points: 20. Transformation progress: 5/1000.]
As Ji Ci gnawed on a chicken leg, she suddenly froze—the vague, sensual scene from the novel flashed through her mind.
“Wait, could it be that the male lead at the flower viewing banquet...?”
Her paw trembled, and the chicken bone dropped to the floor with a “plop.”
Dongfang Jibai tensed up—why did she stop talking?
What about the flower viewing banquet?
Stopping halfway through means no companion for life!
