This is Fairy Commentary
The magical beast and the Night Ghost stared each other down in full view of everyone, utterly unconcerned with the surrounding crowd and terrified of missing even the slightest movement from the other.
The four Night Ghosts attacking the long-necked giant did not slacken their assault either. Relying on their nimble bodies and an assortment of weapons that allowed them to make full use of their individual strengths, they harried the beast without pause. Although the giant appeared completely indifferent to them, it was, in truth, already thoroughly vexed. The venomous water whips it used to deflect arrows and trap the Night Ghost squad kept appearing in different places in response to their attacks, making it impossible for the beast to concentrate entirely on any one thing.
Snap.
Amid the chaos, one of the ceaselessly lashing venomous water whips struck a Night Ghost who had made a mistake in his positioning. The moment So-and-so heard the crisp sound of the watery whip striking flesh, her gaze, which had remained fixed on the Night Ghost captain, shifted to the unfortunate victim. Yet the instant she looked away, a long string of sounds that made her scalp prickle had already begun ringing beside her ears.
The instant the venomous water whip struck the Night Ghost, the corrosive liquid clung tightly to his skin. A succession of sizzling sounds, as though something were being scorched, rose together with the Night Ghost's screams. The flesh touched by the faintly purple corrosive liquid sank inward at once. Before long, she could see the layers of muscle and internal organs that ought to have appeared only in a biology textbook. Blood poured forth without end, mixing with fragments of viscera and seeping into the portions of skin that had not yet been burned away, where it gathered into a pool of blood. The skin that had fortunately escaped direct corrosion gradually turned black beneath the fumes of the poisonous white smoke, then slowly shriveled in the air.
By the time the Night Ghost's corpse crashed to the ground, all that remained was a ruined black husk of a desiccated corpse. Its blood and organs had long since been corroded away.
So-and-so was too stunned by the sight to speak. Her stomach rolled violently, and an indescribable greasy nausea surged upward, rising from her gut all the way into her brain. If her posture and the circumstances of the battle had not restrained her, she would have run at once to somewhere filled with the scent of flowers, vomited her heart out, and eaten nothing but vegetables for an entire week as penance.
Unable to help herself, she turned her gaze away from the battlefield toward Huanluo. Even Huanluo, who had endured all manner of bloody scenes, had been shaken by the spectacle and was looking pale and green.
Judging by the situation, it seemed that she and Huanluo would be eating vegetarian food for quite some time...
After steadying her emotions, So-and-so swiftly returned her attention to the battlefield.
On the field, the long-necked giant had scored its first victory by killing a Night Ghost and was feeling rather pleased with itself. It had originally been swinging its whip according to the paths of the Night Ghosts' attacks, intending to deal with these irritating little nuisances distracting it before turning its attention to the larger opponent. Thus, the long-necked giant immediately increased the speed of its venomous water whip, hoping to catch one or two of the Night Ghosts off guard while their footing was momentarily unsteady.
However, the instant the giant accelerated its whip, its eyes, which had remained locked with those of the Night Ghost captain, shifted slightly as it glanced toward its weapon.
That was precisely the moment the Night Ghost captain had been waiting for.
He planted one foot firmly against the ground and, drawing upon his innate command of the wind element, arrived beside the long-necked giant in an instant. He held the curved blade—fashioned from some unknown material—at his side. Nearly transparent wind elements gathered endlessly along its length. The blade, already sharp to begin with, now appeared even more threatening. The entire weapon radiated an overwhelming aura that seemed to proclaim: Those who stand in my way shall die.
The long-necked giant reacted quickly as well. It folded away the enormous wing it had been using to block the arrows, then swept it downward and launched itself into the air. Its gigantic body seemed to possess no weight at all, rising into the sky in an instant. The Night Ghost captain refused to yield. Using his formidable control over the wind, he changed direction in midair and forcibly intercepted the giant.
Everything that happened next lay beyond So-and-so's visual range. The swift exchange of attacks left her unable to follow the battle with her eyes, and matters became even more confusing with arrows flying back and forth and three Night Ghosts constantly interfering with the fight.
Watching one's own brother transformed into a desiccated corpse by the long-necked giant, while being powerless to do anything, was hardly a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, their combat strength was still insufficient to match the beast. The instant their leader finally entered the fray, the three Night Ghosts gritted their teeth and threw themselves at the giant as though they had been injected with stimulants. Regardless of timing or position, they unleashed their most damaging attacks.
They did not expect to injure the long-necked giant. They only wished to exert every ounce of their strength so that their captain's movements might proceed a little more smoothly.
"Could someone give me a live commentary? I really can't see what's happening anymore." Seeing that all the Night Ghosts around her were occupied with their own tasks, So-and-so quietly asked the fairy sister, who had persistently kept one hand over her mouth.
The fairy sister probably felt that no one had any attention to spare for them at the moment. She cautiously loosened her hold on So-and-so and, in her halting human language, softly asked, "What does live commentary mean?"
"It means that you describe what you're seeing—the way they're fighting—to me," So-and-so whispered in explanation.
The fairy sister perhaps thought the task sounded rather interesting. Without voicing any objection, she maintained her utterly emotionless tone and began slowly, awkwardly providing a live report:
"The captain struck the giant. The giant did not dodge, but it was not badly hurt. The giant counterattacked the captain. The captain dodged and was not hurt. The captain struck the giant again..."
The slow, incomprehensible commentary left So-and-so speechless, black lines practically appearing across her forehead. For a moment, she had no idea what to say. Should she suggest that the fairy sister use fewer words and speak faster, or simply tell her to stop the commentary altogether? At this rate, there was no way her narration could keep up with the battle. By the time she finished saying, "The captain struck the giant," the combatants had probably already progressed to three sentences beyond whatever she was describing.
Yet the fairy sister completely ignored the crucial concept of synchronization. She looked as though she were thoroughly enjoying herself.
"Um..."
After listening for several minutes, So-and-so finally could no longer endure the fairy sister's placid tone and her endlessly repeated descriptions of "The captain struck the giant. The giant counterattacked the captain." She prepared to stop the commentary, her head full of black lines.
Unfortunately, before she could say another word, a thunderous crash and the thick scent of blood flooding the air choked the words back down her throat.
Bang!
"The captain struck the giant again, but the giant successfully dodged..."
The fairy sister's commentary visibly faltered. After a brief silence, she slowly continued with a sentence that had no apparent connection to what came before:
"...The captain struck the giant's neck. The giant's head has fallen off..."
