Chapter Twenty-Two: The Ferocious Flood
Chen Cao held his breath, focusing intently as Duan Tianya’s voice, now almost grating, urged him to listen closely. Sure enough, not far away, several patches of grass were buzzing. “Why are my ears so sharp today?” Chen Cao thought, feeling a flicker of disbelief.
“Did you hear it? In the grass. Unbelievable, isn’t it?” Duan Tianya spoke from behind Chen Cao. “To prove what I said in front of you, and so you can fully witness your own abilities, let’s raise the stakes. How about shooting a mosquito’s wings?” As Duan Tianya spoke, his voice was urgent, like a groom impatiently yearning to unveil his bride on their wedding night.
“Stop joking. Even if we can hear them, we can’t possibly—” Before Chen Cao could finish, Duan Tianya cut him off, his tone heavier, “Do you really think you have room to negotiate with me?”
Chen Cao realized that, at this moment, negotiation was out of the question.
“Cut the nonsense. I’ll count to three. If you don’t shoot, I will!” Duan Tianya pressed the gun to the back of Chen Cao’s head again.
“You… lunatic…” Just as Chen Cao was about to curse, Duan Tianya called out, “One.”
Chen Cao, helpless, raised his gun. Clearly, this bastard wasn’t joking. At least, with Duan Tianya’s current status, killing two orderlies like him and accusing them of desertion or leaking secrets wouldn’t be impossible.
“Two!” As Duan Tianya called out “two,” Chen Cao’s eyes widened, staring into the distance. His breath quickened, and his mouth was so dry with anxiety tha
